Inkling Ren is a faith-based literary magazine inspired by an informal circle of literary friends in the 1930s & 40s. Members included writing heavyweights, C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Charles Williams, among others. During their meetings, writers would listen to one another read their works aloud, and offer feedback. Tolkien is said to have summed up the spirit of Inkling meetings when he called it “a feast of reason and flow of soul”. In that spirit, our publication seeks to facilitate communion for like-minded writers and provide a creative space for them to share their work with others.
We choose to honor God and love each other by sharing written offerings that praise God and give thanks for what He has made, testify to the ways that we see Him at work in our lives, and invite Him into our wrestling with the trials we face.
As each upcoming theme is revealed, all are welcome to submit. Although we cannot publish all submissions, we appreciate each one, and we invite you to join us for in-person meetings to read your work aloud and discuss it with others. We publish poetry, prose, and creative nonfiction. Writers and submissions must reflect our values to be considered for publication.
